Donalda MacIsaac, a health advocate and community volunteer in Lower Sackville, spoke at our Rotary Club meeting this morning concerning diversity in our health care system and being part of the creation of Diversity in Health Care Bursaries by Nova Scotia Health in 2015 and funded by the QEII Foundation since 2018.

Her passion for health care grew from personal experience caring for loved ones. To help make a difference for her family and her community, she started by becoming involved with the Cobequid Community Health Board (CHB) in Lower Sackville.  Then as part of the creation of the Diversity in Health Care Bursaries.

The Diversity in Health Care Bursaries are dedicated to students from diverse backgrounds studying in health care.   The $1,000 bursary is earmarked for African Nova Scotians, Indigenous peoples, immigrants, people with disabilities and 2sLGBTQ+ students.  Bursary recipients commit to seeking employment in the Nova Scotia Health Authority’s Central Zone.  Since 2018, the QEII Foundation has provided Diversity in Health Care Bursaries to 58 post-secondary students studying in a healthcare field.

Thank you Donalda for a riveting and heartfelt look into diversity in our health care system and the Diversity in Health Care Bursaries program.  For information on the Bursaries program, visit the QEII FOUNDATION website at https://qe2foundation.ca/current-priorities/diversity-health-care-bursaries.
