Rotary is marking 30 Years of Women in Rotary.  Rotary Club of Halifax Harbourside invited all area clubs to an informal brunch/meeting today. Our Club showed good representation and enjoyed the camaraderie, networking opportunities and, in general, the enjoyable company.   
 
Notable Facts
 
  1. It was voted that Women could be admitted to Rotary Clubs Worldwide in 1989.  By June 1990, the number of female Rotarians had skyrocketed to over 20,000.  By July 2016, the number of female Rotarians had surpassed 250,000.
  2. 1995 - Eight women become district governors.
  3. 2005 - The first woman appointed as trustee of The Rotary Foundation.
  4. 2008 - The first woman elected to the RI board of directors.
  5. 2012 - The first woman to serve as RI treasurer.
  6. 2013 - The first woman to serve as RI vice president.
