There are only 100 Peace Scholarships awarded by Rotary each year, so every recipient is a very special individual. We are lucky that two of them this year are from Atlantic Canada, and Kalina (who graduated from Saint Mary’s in 2009 Magna Cum Laude with a BA Political Science with an honours in International Relations) took time to talk to us before starting her programme in Uppsala, Sweden in the Fall.........

..... Kalina chose Uppsala (one of only 5 institutions world wide that offer the Masters Programme in Peace and Conflict Resolution) because the research done there most closely mirrors her interests. She spoke to us about preparation for her application which included involvement in Model United Nations, delivering Peace Education in Northern Ireland,  volunteering for Mines Action Canada in Nepal and more recently  the Canadian Red Cross (including hands on support at Fort McMurray). We wish this extraordinary young woman every success in Sweden. We know the world is a safer place in the hands of Rotary Peace Scholars.
